Overview

The MA-1 flight jacket 9628 was first introduced in the 1950's, but you could say that it's history goes back to 1935 when Dupont introduced synthetic thermoplastic polymer fiber that was used to create the first ever NYLON fabric. This revolutionary fabric was originally created for the U.S. Military. The U.S. Military first used it for parachutes, but soon it was put to use in many ways, including Flight Jackets.

In the 1930s Military Pilots wore leather jackets, in the late 40's these aviators began wearing insulated jackets made of dense cotton, but by the 1950's U.S.A.F. Pilots were flying missions wearing the first ever issued NYLON Flight Satin MA-1's.

The jacket fit me perfectly. The color was exactly what I was looking for and the pockets were large enough for my hands. The zipper quality is superb.

This jacket fits perfectly. I am 5’ 6”, 155 lbs, 30”w, 42” chest. I ordered the size small. It is very well made and quite thick and well insulated. It truly keeps you warm without being too heavy or making you too hot. Feels very comfortable and just right. I plan to order the same style but in the lighter design for the slightly warmer months here on the chilly Northern Coast. Really cool jacket.

I've been eying this jacket for close to a year. I finally pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier. I love everything about this jacket; the look, the fit, and the quality. It's all top notch. The nylon outer shell is thick and durable and does a great job shielding the wind. I don't feel the cold one bit in this jacket. It's surprisingly warm considering it's not a very thick or down insulated jacket. It definitely holds its own in freezing temperatures. The zipper is very durable and utilitarian. Definitely built to last. The cuffs are also thick and not stretchy so I don't feel like it will wear out and become all loose around my wrist. The more tailored fit means the arms and torso aren't loose or baggy. I hate baggy jackets, especially ones with baggy, oversized arms. I'm 5' 11" with a 36" chest and a small fits perfectly. I'm able to wear just a t-shirt or layer up with a sweater without it feeling tight. Finally, the look of this jacket has a very subtle and understated cool factor. Where the Perfecto unapologetically demands attention, this flight jacket gets the attention it deserves without being loud about it. The sage green is old an school military color that pairs easily with black or blue jeans. Throw on a pair of aviator sunglasses and you're set. The only negative I can find on this jacket is the zipper pulls, which are synthetic leather. Considering Schott is no stranger to leather, its kind of surprising they chose a synthetic material for this part. But that's a really small nitpick if I'm being honest, and doesn't really bother me. But leather pulls would've been a nice touch. Overall, it's a well made jacket with durable materials. Worth every penny.

I absolutely love this jacket. It’s heavy enough to wear in winter but light enough not to feel heavy. The fit feels tailored. I’m able to wear just a t-shirt underneath without it feeling oversized. I was worried the jacket would be baggy but it’s not. I’m not a particularly muscular guy either. The zipper is robust and high quality as well. Love the color and the look.

Sharp Bomber

I chose the sage bomber in size medium. I am 6’0” tall and 185 lbs with an athletic build. It fits right. Love the color! It is on the heavier side, warm enough for regular winter weather, probably not when it’s bitterly cold. Overall, a sexy jacket, and I recommend it!

9628 Bomber

This is my first time to own a bomber Jacket And have found it to be a great Eisenhower cut product.
The finish work on the 9628 is exceptional,
I am all about the details and 9628 checks all the boxes.
Did one size exchange and that went off without a hitch!
Customer service: is also about a review, I dealt with Jerri and she was more than accommodating.

Warm New England Jacket

Bought for North East (New England) winters. Have worn in the snow, rain, and 5 degree temps (wind chill down to -7) for extended walks (30-45 mins). Jacket kept me perfectly warm with just a light-medium sweater on. For higher temps of 10-40 I did have to drop layers to just a t-shirt/light sweater. It's a warm jacket, including the pockets, and yet breathable. I was worried about that swooshing sound with nylon and it's barely noticeable. Zippers are stellar too.

I love mine!

Lightning fast shipping was impressive! I love this flight jacket, it fits me perfectly and keeps me warm..The attention to detail and quality are matchless. I get compliments every day. Followed the size guide and it’s almost like the jacket was tailored just for me. Thank You Schott!!!

Nice looking, but some shoddy construction

5'10, 150 lbs. Small was a perfect fit, and the jacket material is quite nice looking and warm. Unfortunately some of the construction is questionable. The inner button clasp was sent to me already broken off, which makes me nervous about the other buttons on the jacket. Shame.

Often imitated and never rivaled

This jacket is of such great quality - it’s cut and construction as a garment is very well designed, it fits and moves really comfortably.
I’m also impressed by the material and the obvious quality.

Looks good and feels great to wear

Excellent but will burn

Just be careful with cigar ash I burned a small hole in the nylon which melts very easily - what is the colour code ?

Great jacket

I’m 6’2, 210, 32 inch waist and the large fits perfect. I came here to put that out there for anyone trying to figure out their size who might be around my size. So there you go. I like the jacket a lot. Can’t wait to wear it in the fall.

Sharp Flight Jacket

Very happy with the jacket and the service. The exchange rate was a killer otherwise I'd have ordered the sage as well.

Exceeds Expectations

This jacket is truly fantastic! I have owned jackets from Alpha and Rothco, and I can confidently say this one is far superior. The design is streamlined and not bulky, offering a sleek fit. The inner pocket is also perfectly positioned to hold a wallet or cell phone. It also keeps me warm. Thank you, Schott!

Had to size down from the recommended size

I normally wear an extra large on most jackets, but for this particular one with how baggy it looks and how the measurements came out, I didn't want to take a chance of having a garbage bag sitting on me.

I'm 6 ft at 220 lb with a 36in arm length, And the large fits snug, especially when you try to lift your arms up but the sleeves do not ride back and I can still put a hoodie under the jacket. I was looking at a lot of reviews for these types of bomber jackets, especially the one from alpha industries and it is incredibly baggy over there. I would recommend this one, It's also very warm for the New York city winter

Great jacket, super warm

this jacket is great. The ONLY thing to consider…for me at least, you gotta size down. It fits how a flight jacket should, but if you want it to be a touch more form fitting. Go down. Ive never been a small in anything….until I exchanged this jacket for one. That said. I love it. Could still wear it with a hoodie and get you through the entire NY winter i believe

Black bomber jacket medium

Very nice jacket, I don't like that you can't dry it in a dryer. Wish the pockets were a little deeper. Overall I would buy it again.

Selected black - awesome look with orange lining. Shell is thick nylon with typical heavy duty Schott zippers. Well-constructed jacket. Fit perfectly based on sizing guide.

Men's Nylon Flight Jacket STYLE: 9628

Great jacket, nice fit and excellent quality. If you like the aviator style of jacket, don’t hesitate, Schott makes a beautiful one!

I used to have an Alpha Industries that I never liked the fit of. It was too short in the body length and sleeves. The Schott is perfect in all aspects.

I’m 6’, 185 lbs, 42” chest with an average build. The Fit Guide put me in a size Large, which is bang on. It gives me room to wear a hoodie underneath in colder weather—or I can just wear it with a shirt, and it still fits and looks great.

This is my 4th Schott—141; 100; 515V; and now the 9628. These guys just make great products.

More great quality from Schott

I continue to be amazed by both the quality and value of Schott products! Both the fit and quality of this jacket are amazing, and—like every Schott item I’ve purchased in the past—it completely exceeded my expectations. Couple this with the fact that comparable jackets seem to be more expensive and for lesser quality, this item is a must-buy if you’re looking for this type of thing.

Another winner from Schott

I previously purchased a leather jacket from Schott, as well as a pea coat shirt/jacket. So, I knew the quality would be worth the price. Sure enough, I received the Nylon Flight Jacket soon after placing the order. You can normally tell when you put something on whether it is well-made. That was the case here. It's warm enough, fits great, and it looks good on me.

My only complaint is that the weather is warming up, and I may not get that much use out of the jacket until autumn. Hahaha. Thanks, Schott, I love the jacket!
